Digital Platform

Making cultural heritage available to the public is extremely important, but it requires caution. Every culture relies on its works and on the people who will interpret and respect them, securing their future for generations to come. Tytus Działyński, the founder of the Kórnik Library, understood this, and modern librarians are also aware of it.
Nowadays, we have access to more and more effective methods for conservation and preservation, as well as tools that allow us to safely share our collections with a wide audience. Preparing and making available digital images of items that are physically vulnerable to damage has become part of our everyday library work.
The castle exhibition’s arrangement could not be complete without a digital component – tablets featuring scanned copies of exceptional works from our collection took their place on a centuries-old table. You can “flip through” them by swiping your finger across the screen and even zoom in to see the details – something that is more difficult or impossible when dealing with the original. Both these and thousands of other items can be found on the Kórnik Library’s Digital Platform of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which is free and open to everyone.
