Kórnik Heritage in Nine Instalments
600 Years of the Castle, 200 Years of the Library
The castle in Kórnik has existed for six centuries. For most of that time it served as a residence, but two hundred years ago it also became a treasury for manuscripts, early printed books, works of art, and documents crucial to our history, which together laid the magnificent foundations of the Kórnik Library.
These collections would not have survived to the present day without the awareness, dedication, and courage of the successive owners and later the librarians of the Kórnik book collection. The people in question not only devoted their time and resources, but also risked a great deal to preserve it, while continuously and wisely expanding the collection.
The exhibition tells the story of the priceless objects preserved here, while at the same time serving as a modest tribute to the past generations to whom we owe the present form of the Kórnik Library. The care for this exceptional heritage continues to this day.
